This is Daniel Lewis-Toakley. He would rather we call him Dan, the Oaktree people know him as the indie with the quiff, he’s a vegetarian and inhabits the role of National Generate Manager within the hierarchy in Oaktree. I got the chance to ask Dan a few questions regarding Live Below the Line:
Artofjournalism: Tell me in five words describing your role as National Generate Manager for Oaktree?
Dan Lewis-Toakley: Strategy, curriculum, communications, management and fun!!
Artofjournalism: Why are you supporting Oaktree? i.e. What is about Oaktree that makes you want to be National Generate Manager for them?
Dan: Three overriding reasons: I am passionate about and dedicated to the fight to end global poverty and I believe in that Oaktree is effective in doing so, due to the friendships and relationships I have made and will continue and lastly, due to the quantity and quality of skills and knowledge I have and will learn into the future.
Artofjournalism: Have you done LBL before? If yes, what is your strategy?
Dan: I actually haven’t, so the TV ad is somewhat inaccurate! However, form what I have heard: look at recipes before you shop, try to include some spices (salt, pepper or sugar) and try to plan your meals - even if just in your head!!
Artofjournalism: What meal are you going to miss whilst you are doing LBL?
Dan: I think two main ones: Dumplings & Thai food!!
Artofjournalism: What are you relying upon during the five days to get you going through the week?Dan: The other Oaktree volunteers and participants who are living below the line as well - we are all in this together, no matter what our role or involvement at Oaktree. A solid supply of rice will help as well!
Artofjournalism: Any last words?Dan: Generate has been the leading group of individuals in the grass-roots component of the Live Below the Line campaign. It is great that we have celebrities like Hugh Jackman involved, however Generate has honestly been one of the single most effective components to this campaign, and there is no way it would have been as successful without you guys. I look forward to hearing all the stories from next week!
